  • Early American Fiction 1789-1875 contains the full text of more than 500 first editions of novels and short stories by nearly 100 American authors.

Among the authors included in the database are James Fenimore Cooper, Edgar Allan Poe, Herman Melville, Catharine Maria Sedgwick, Harriet Jacobs, and Mark Twain, as well as authors who were popular at the time but whose works are long out of print.

Contents are based on Wright's American Fiction 1774-1850 and the Bibliography of American Literature and offer both facsimile page images and keyword-searchable full text. Works from 1851-1875 are still being added. The Web resource Wright American Fiction 1851-1875 at Indiana University complements Early American Fiction with additional texts from the Wright bibliography.
