Articles in the Encyclopedia of Race, Ethnicity, and Society describe American racial and ethnic groups, race and ethnicity in world societies, concepts and theories related to race and ethnicity, and discrimination. The encyclopedia also discusses "issues of inequality that often intersect with the primary focus on race and ethnicity," such as age and gender. Encyclopedia articles include bibliographies of further reading. There are also two useful appendices, "Data on Race and Ethnicity in the United States, 1820 to the Present," and "Internet Resources on Race, Ethnicity, and Society."
