The Encyclopedia of Social Welfare History in North America surveys "how Canada, the United States, and Mexico have dealt with social welfare issues" and "important events, developments, and the lives and work of some key contributors to social welfare developments." Each entry includes a bibliography. Bibliographies are divided into three categories: primary sources, current comment (documents contemporary to the time of the entry topic), and further reading. Useful appendices include a research guide to resources for studying social welfare history and a chronology of events in social welfare history for each country.
